We cannot ever control government agencies’ time frames, but once the government responds we are on it quickly and move to get all of our steps completed to deliver what we have promised within 24 hours. Even if the government takes a long time, your FOIA request service should not extend the time it takes to get what your company needs. What happens behind the scenes when you submit a FOIA Request?

We will locate the records officer at each government office who is in charge of processing FOIA requests.

We will write and submit the FOIA request in accordance with state or federal law.

We will follow up quickly and answer any questions the government office may have regarding our request. Our service is confidential, and our client’s name is not disclosed. All back-and-forth correspondence is handled by us. A request can take several weeks to several months or even longer.

We will coordinate and send in any fees due to the government office (with approval from the client).

We will follow up and handle all correspondence with the government until we receive the files.

If received by mail, we will scan all files.

We will review the file/s to ensure the government has sent us the correct information.

We will send the documents to the client through a secure link. 

Additional Considerations

FPS does not charge for the information itself, only the time to obtain the information. We cannot provide a refund for any location that denies the request or does not have the contract we requested. We ask for a detailed response from the location if they do not have the information. Our price is for our time that we work on each request.

FPS does not have direct control over the agency’s response times or what they decide to release with each request. If information is missing, however, we will go back to the location, explain what is missing, and ask them to send us the correct and full response. If a location will not release the information and there is an appeal process, FPS will discuss with the client at that time to see if they want to move forward with an appeal.

Our flat rate covers all of our time for a 12 month period once we submit. If a request takes longer than one year to process, we charge a one time flat rate to continue to track it for another year.

We will then continue to follow up with the agency until all files are received for that request.

Although we do not have control over the agency’s response time, we do all that we can do to obtain the files as quickly as possible. We make sure that our request does not fall through the cracks with the government office. We also pay fees due to the agency quickly and have an organized system to do so. Paying a fee quickly results in a faster turnaround time.
